At Durbl, we understand that the materials you bring into your home make a difference—especially when it comes to food storage and your family’s health. That’s why we use platinum silicone in every product we design. But what is platinum silicone, and why does it matter? Let’s dive in.
What Is Platinum Silicone?
Platinum silicone is a high-quality, food-grade silicone that’s cured using platinum as a catalyst. This process eliminates the need for chemical additives like peroxides, which can leave behind residues that compromise safety. Instead, platinum silicone is non-toxic, odorless, and exceptionally pure. It’s free from BPA, phthalates, heavy metals, and other harmful chemicals often found in lower-grade materials.
Why Choose Platinum Silicone?
1.Safety You Can Trust
Because platinum silicone is free from toxins, it’s a smart choice for any product that touches your food. It’s certified to meet both FDA and LFGB standards for food contact—so you can trust it in your kitchen and on the go.
2. Built to Last Platinum silicone is incredibly durable. It resists cracking, warping, and degradation—even with daily use. Whether it’s going from the freezer to the microwave or through repeated cycles in the dishwasher, it holds its shape and integrity.
3. Versatile and Convenient This material is lightweight yet flexible, making it perfect for modern kitchens. It’s oven-safe, microwave-safe, freezer-safe, and dishwasher-safe—ideal for busy families looking for reliable, reusable solutions.
Durbl’s Commitment to Quality
Every Durbl product—whether it’s our Starter Set, Essentials Set, or Fold-Up Containers—is made exclusively from platinum silicone. We chose this material because we believe in making products that are both safe and sustainable.

Attention campers! After planning your meals for camping, make sure you have proper storage to keep your food safe. This is important for protecting your food during your trip. If you're camping, read our tips on keeping food safe and using less plastic. It doesn't matter if you're at a campground, national park, or in the backcountry.Remember to check the expiry dates on food before and during your trip, as this will help prevent spoilage.Keep your food and trash in check; don't let them out of sight. Unattended food is a call to wild animals, a temptation they can't resist. Keep your food and trash inside a secure container; never only leave them inside your tent if you want some uninvited guests. If you can access metal food lockers at your campsite, use them instead of leaving food in your car. Bears have been known to break into cars, even in broad daylight, so it's not worth the risk. Opt for reusable Durbl bags instead of single-use plastics or disposable foil packets. Keep perishables cold in a cooler, pack raw meat in leak-proof Durbl gallon bags, and freeze it before the trip to avoid accidents. Proper food storage is critical, not just for the animals but also for your food safety.Securing food and scented items in Bear Country can be challenging, but Bear Canisters offers a reliable solution. These strong containers with secure lids are very difficult for bears to open, so they are popular for camping. National parks and trails often require bear-proof containers to prevent bear encounters, despite their bulkiness and difficulty in packing. Fortunately, rental options are often available for those who don't want to avoid purchasing their canisters. In places without required bear canisters, bear bags are a handy option for keeping food, garbage, and items that attract bears. These durable bags are made from tough materials such as Kevlar, which is used in bulletproof vests. They are designed to withstand bears' claws and teeth. While they are less bulky than bear canisters, bear bags are not waterproof, and their contents may become crushed if a bear accidentally knocks them over. As a result, many outdoor enthusiasts prefer bear canisters for added protection and peace of mind.Secure Food Storage
For campers, food lockers, also known as bear boxes, provide a reliable solution for protecting food from wild animals. These sturdy metal containers are strategically placed at a safe distance from campsites, making them ideal for safeguarding food against bears and other curious creatures.

If you're camping in a designated area, you will likely have a cooler, so utilize it effectively. Before your trip, please create ice packs by filling Durbl Quart Bags with water and freezing them. The melted ice can be used for drinking, cooking, or cleaning.Additionally, it's advisable to organize the food in your cooler based on your consumption schedule. Items that won't be consumed immediately should be placed at the bottom, while those for immediate consumption should be kept near the top.

Remember to wash your hands thoroughly before and after handling food, especially raw meat, and after using the restroom. Neglecting this critical step could lead to illness and negatively impact your trip. For added convenience, store soap, hand wipes, and hand sanitizer in a Durbl Snack Bag attached to your backpack. When sharing snacks from a Durbl Sandwich Bag, such as trail mix, pour out small portions at a time to prevent multiple hands from touching the food. While planning food storage methods may not be as thrilling as planning activities, ensuring a safe and enjoyable trip is crucial.
Durbl sustainable silicone containers are collapsible, making them perfect for storing, packing lunches, yogurts, and they won't leak. You can even cook right in them and eat directly! That's why they're ideal for making these overnight oats, requiring just one bowl for preparation, storage, and transportation.
Overnight oats are a simple and delicious breakfast option that can be prepared in advance, saving you time in the morning. Here's a recipe for you:
Ingredients:
1 cup rolled oats
1 cup milk (or milk alternative like plant-based milk)
2 tablespoons yogurt (optional)
1 tablespoon honey or maple syrup
1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract (optional)
Assorted fruits, nuts, or other toppings for decoration and flavor
Step:
In a Durbl container, mix together the rolled oats, milk, yogurt (if using), honey or maple syrup, and vanilla extract (if using). Ensure the liquid fully covers the oats to allow them to absorb.
Stir the mixture well, then cover the container with a lid or sealable bag and refrigerate overnight (at least 6 hours). During this time, the oats will absorb the liquid and become soft and edible.
In the morning or when ready to eat, top the overnight oats with any desired fruits, nuts, or other toppings for decoration and flavor. You can choose chopped bananas, blueberries, strawberries, nuts, dried fruits, etc., according to your preference.
Stir well and enjoy. If you prefer your overnight oats warm, you can heat them in the microwave for about a minute before adding fruits and other toppings.

I had the kind with a plastic slider on the top - I hated using them & they didn't seal well and things got freezer burn quickly. These seem to seal much better and are much easier to use, and the silicone being really clear so you can see the contents easily is very helpful too. You can fit a lot more in them than you think, I've been using the snack size more than I thought I would. I wish they would offer the quart size individually - I don't understand why you can get every size except that one. Definitely recommend them
These are great, but I wish they would offer more buying options. They only come in a 3-pack and they don't offer just the size you want individually. I am loving using these for work lunches and that they are safe to heat up in the microwave. They seal well and are heavy duty enough to be sturdy, but don't feel heavy to cart around.
I bought these to stop buying 1-time use Zip-Loc bags. They aren't quite as convenient to use or store, but overall MUCH better. I will buy more. I also bought another top brand but I am sticking with Durbl.
